Allergens: the Canadian angle
Health Canada lists 11 priority food allergens: eggs, milk, mustard, peanuts, crustaceans and molluscs, fish, sesame, soy, sulphites, tree nuts, and wheat and triticale (Health Canada). Prepackaged products must declare them on the label.
Online, add allergen notes to each item description, especially nuts, sesame and eggs in cakes and pastries. Ontario bakery chains with 20 or more locations must also show calories on menus where customers can order (Ontario: calories on menus).
